WeCount! will be partnering with doctors, nurses, and medical students to host a health clinic for plant nursery workers who are currently laboring in South Florida’s extreme heat. Our on-site health clinic will provide free health care services, heat safety education, and heat kits for plant nursery workers and their families. We will also be connecting plant nursery workers to our new Planting Justice (Sembrando Justicia) campaign.

When departments, organizations and contractors come together to make sure their workers are safe and sound while working in the heat, including creating a heat illness prevention plan that can be used to take care of them, that is when real implementation happens! We'll walk through the systems such implementation to make sure we have every tool to tackle the heat!

Event: Bringing Heat Safety to Houston’s Worker Corners
Hosts: Fe y Justicia Worker Center

Fe y Justicia Worker Center is meeting construction workers where they gather to find work across Houston. In addition to community outreach, they provide on-the-spot heat-safety training at worker corners, helping workers recognize the symptoms of heat-related illness and learn how to prevent it. Fe y Justicia also distributes heat-safety flyers and kits containing hard hats, water, electrolytes, and bandanas to help workers stay safe in extreme heat.
