National COSH staffer confirmed to NH Human Rights Commission
COSH lauds Moriarty's commitment to fairness to address discrimination in employment, housing, and public education
Manchester, NH - Melissa Moriarty’s appointment to the New Hampshire Human Rights Commission is being celebrated by the National Council for Health and Safety (National COSH). Moriarty was appointed by New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu and confirmed by the state’s Executive Council. As a human rights commissioner, she will make determinations on discrimination cases in employment, public accommodations, housing, and public education while raising awareness on civil rights issues in the state.
“Melissa’s sound judgment, collaborative leadership and commitment to fairness, service and integrity make her an excellent choice to help end illegal discrimination in New Hampshire,” said Marcy Goldstein-Gelb, co-executive director at COSH. Melissa will continue in her role as bilingual storytelling and communications strategist for National COSH which draws attention to workers' experiences of discriminatory practices while carrying out her new role as commissioner.
“I’m eager to get started and honored that the Governor and the Commission have placed their faith in me,” said Moriarty, who previously served as the communications manager for SEIU1984 where she helped represent the interests of New Hampshire state employees. As a longtime resident of the state, she plans to do outreach to the growing Spanish speaking community and expand the Commission’s linguistic capacity.
