To the editor:

As Governor X develops plans for re-opening the economy, s/he must remember that workers who have risked exposure to a deadly disease during this pandemic will never return to the same, old “normal”.

Working people are not willing to trade their lives for a paycheck.  That’s why there have been walkouts, sick outs and other job actions all over the United States, fighting for and winning better workplace protections.

No order from a president, governor, or mayor, can force people back to work. We’ll come back once we know our concerns have been addressed, with rigorous safety measures based on the best available science.

Our organization [name] in partnership with the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (National COSH), has released a report called “A Safe and Just Return to Work.  We say that workers must be at the table  -- in the boardroom and in the Capitol -- when decisions are made about returning to work.

We urge Governor X to heed these recommendations so that together, we can tackle the hard work of recovering from this public health crisis.
